1. Will it be permanent or come back if weight increase?
The remaining fat cells in the area can increase in size resulting in a slight increase in the fatty layer but there will never be a return to the former large layer, unless of course, a large amount of weight is added to the rest of the body. Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet of smaller portions and exercise. |

2. Will there be remaining irregularities?
The appearance after liposuction is influenced by your general state of health – the overall condition of you skin, age, weight, hormonal influences and other factors, such as the method of liposuction. |

3. Will any cellulite be removed?
The term ‘cellulite’ has no precise medical meaning. Most people use the word to refer to dimpling and irregularities seen on the surface of the skin. It is mostly seen on the lower abdominal skin and outer thighs. Cellulite is due to the protein degeneration in the skin and worsens with age. Liposuction cannot cure cellulite but it will remove fat and reduce contour. |

4. Will the skin look very loose afterwards?
There is a remarkable retraction of the skin afterwards due mostly to the elastic fibres in the skin. It also depends largely on age, the younger you are the better retractility of skin you have. The full result is usually seen at about six weeks. The skin envelope therefore always shrinks, to a greater or lesser degree, to adjust to the reduced contour. |

5. Will there be a lot of bruising?
This depends on many factors – the amount of clotting factors in the blood, bleeding time, the amount of tissue trauma, the site of liposuction and the amount of adrenaline used. Tissue trauma can be minimised by using cannulas of smaller diameter. Bleeding can also be improved by stopping all aspirin, anti-inflammatory and herbal medications at least two weeks before surgery. The intake of alcohol should be minimal as this also affects bleeding. |

6. Can all the fat in an area be removed?
No – subdermal (below the skin) fat needs to remain as it carries the blood supply to the skin. |
